Until we get older,
we have absolutely no idea what it is like for our bodies to revert back to what they once were when we were infants and toddlers. We don’t know realize that our bodies simply wear out and the communication that is supposed to happen from the receptors in our brain just quit sending messages to the rest of our bodies.
For many seniors, this means accidents. It is embarrassing for some and downright humiliating for others. It makes them so nervous that they feel sick.
Seniors tend to avoid the accidents by becoming home bound; not even wanting to go out to doctors, dentists or other necessary appointments because they may not be able to get to a bathroom fast enough. It is so hard to see how much they hurt. It truly breaks my heart.
I take it as my responsibility to help alleviate these negative feelings as much as possible because I know that With Age Comes Respect and I intend to communicate this in every possible fashion. I just hope that each elder that crosses my path knows just how strongly I feel about preserving their dignity and respect while preventing them from feeling embarrassed at all.
