Getting a client to the hospital during a stroke

Did you know that the first 60 minutes after a stroke is the most critical? Indeed they are because there are new treatments that are available currently that can greatly reduce the damage a stroke my cause.

Each and every minute counts in order to prevent a permanent disability. Caregivers that know about stroke symptoms are more apt to help their clients than those that don’t realize the symptoms.

If you do not know the symptoms, you need to learn them because if you know you may just be able to react in time to prevent permanent damage for your clients. Calling 9-1-1 or getting your client safely to a medical facility is the key.

Stokes are serious business! Many people refer to strokes as “brain attacks.” They are different from an aneurism because a stroke is when blood flow to the brain stops because a blood clot is in the way therefore the oxygen and nutrients needed to help the brain function cannot get through. An aneurism is a bulge or ballooning in a blood vessel in the brain. It can leak or rupture, causing bleeding into the brain (hemorrhagic stroke).

Know the difference will help you to determine the proper steps to take. Sometimes there is no time to react to an aneurysm but knowing helps you to display that With Age Comes Respect.
