A day off for family

I did not get to see any of my clients today since it is a holiday and holidays are special days set aside for family. At least I am lucky and all of my clients have family that attends to them on these marked occasions! There are way too many elderly individuals that are abandoned on holidays. I experienced this when I would go to visit my grandmother in her assisted living quarters.
I always have to wonder how people can abandon those they supposedly love – especially at holiday time! They are always present when money is left to be given out, but somehow fail to remember the small occasions when their loved ones need them to be around and spread some holiday cheer. It literally makes me sick to think that people are abandoned.
It is nice to be with my family knowing that the other people that I care for are being cared for by someone else when I cannot be present. If they were not there, I would certainly, at the least, have them into my home for the holidays. It would be the very least I could do to once again prove to them that With Age Comes Respect.
