Emotional needs come out in a variety of ways

While some clients may be sad and others mad, some seem to lose control completely. Often a caregiver has to wonder if there is anything possible that they can do to prove to their client that they truly believe and want to show that With Age Comes Respect.
Hand in there! Just by being there day-after-day and occasion-after-occasion, you are doing the right thing even if it does not truly feel like it. Eventually there will be a breakthrough and you will be able to witness the light at the end of the tunnel (or at least a smidgen of light that breaks through the darkness of despair).
No one ever promised caregivers a rose garden. You really have to be tenacious in order to stay with the task at hand! IT IS NOT EASY! If you don’t think you will be able to do it because it will end up hurting you mentally and emotionally then for God’s sake please don’t do this to yourself or others. Nothing good will come of it!
Every single person is born with a gift. This I truly believe. If being an elderly caregiver is not for you, I promise that if you keep looking, you will certainly find exactly what it is that you are meant to do, but remember this is an emotional job that takes time, resilience and tenacity. You must think of yourself and others at the same time in order to do the very best job that you can possibly do!

About melissalstoneburner

Melissa is the proud mother of two boys. She also like to take care of all of her elderly clients as though they were her actual flesh and blood, too. Melissa began her elderly care business, Time to Care, in August, 2012. Since then, she has successfully seen several clients through life and onto the next life. She writes about what she knows, what she doesn't know, and reveals all the research in between. She believes that elderly care is the best thing she has ever done in life; second only to being a mother!
