What are combivent inhalers?

Combivent Resptimat Inhalers are inhalers that are used to help treat people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, otherwise known as COPD, asthma, and certain heart diseases like Congestive Heart Failure. They are made up of ipratropium bromide and albuterol and are used as a regular aerosol bronchodilator or otherwise referred to as an inhaler. They can be used as a second bronchodilator for those people that have continued evidence of bronchospasms or airway narrowing. Your elders should only use this form of medical relief if it is prescribed by their physician!
Caretakers need to realize some very vital things about their seniors using an inhaler of this variety. You never want your client to use this inhaler if they are allergic to any of the ingredients used to make it or if they are allergic to atropine or other similar drug therapies.
Paradoxical bronchospasms may occur and be life threatening if this drug causes in your client a narrowing of their airways. If this should happen, it is pertinent to call 9-1-1 and get in touch with their physician immediately!
Although it is prescribed for particular forms of heart disease, it could cause other serious heart-related side effects such as palpitations, chest pain, rapid heart rate, high blood pressure, tremors or nervousness. If your client in indicating any or several of these symptoms, again it is crucial to get them medical help.
